Women's to men's shoe size conversion

Subtract 1 to 1.5 from a women's size to get the men's size. On the US standard (Brannock) scale, a women's 9 is a men's 8. Nike's chart subtracts 1.5, so a women's 9 is a men's 7.5 there. Unisex shoes such as Crocs are labeled in men's sizes about 2 below women's, so check each brand's own chart.

Women's to men's shoe size chart
Find your women's size in the first column. The second column is the men's size on the US standard scale, which is the scale the shoe size calculator uses. The third column is the men's size on Nike's chart, which sits half a size lower. The last column is the longest foot each size fits on the standard scale.

Each half size adds 1/6 inch (about 4 mm) of foot length on the standard scale, so a half size makes a real difference in fit.
Why some charts say 1 size and others say 1.5
Men's and women's US sizes both step 1/3 inch per whole size, so converting between them is always a fixed offset. The disagreement is only about how big that offset is.
- On the Brannock Device, the standard US foot measurer, the women's scale sits exactly 1 size above the men's scale. A foot that measures a men's 5 measures a women's 6.
- Nike's women's chart sits 1.5 sizes above its men's chart. Nike lists a women's 10.5 at the same foot length as a men's 9.
- Brooks tells women to order unisex running shoes 1.5 sizes smaller than their usual women's size.
- Zappos' conversion page uses about 2 sizes, so a women's 9 is roughly a men's 7 there.
None of these is wrong for its own shoes. If the brand you are buying publishes a chart, use that chart. If you only know your size in one brand, convert through your foot length: measure your foot, then look up the length on the new brand's chart, or enter it in the calculator.
Unisex sizes: Crocs, Converse and other shoes sold in men's sizes
Unisex shoes are usually made and labeled on the men's scale. Many of them print both sizes, and the gap between the two labels is set by the brand.
- Crocs labels unisex sizes in pairs, such as M7/W9, where M is men's and W is women's. The pairs are 2 sizes apart, and Crocs lists M8/W10 for a 255 mm (10 inch) foot.
- Converse Chuck Taylors are sold in unisex sizes, which are men's sizes, so women usually go 2 sizes down from their women's size. Converse also says Chucks run about half a size large.
- Brooks says to order unisex shoes 1.5 sizes below your women's size.
When a listing shows only one number with no M or W, treat it as a men's size and subtract from your women's size using that brand's gap.
Converting width between men's and women's shoes
Width letters mean different things in men's and women's shoes, so a D on a men's shoe and a D on a women's shoe are different widths. Convert the width name, such as regular or wide, and then look up its letter in the other line.

Nike says its wide shoes have about 1/4 inch more room around the toe box than regular width, and its extra wide shoes about 1/2 inch more.
